Kawartha Lakes OPP Press Release

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – During this past weekend officers from the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to over 85 calls for service. Officers investigated many types of occurrences including motor vehicle collisions, animal complaints, criminal and driving offences.

On Friday April 21, 2017 at approximately 4:30pm a traffic complaint was received on Kawartha Lakes Road 30, between Fenelon Falls and Bobcaygeon. Officers responded and an investigation was commenced. Arrested and charged was 42 year old, Travis SYMYNYSHEN of Markham with the following offences:

Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)

Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 mgs of Alcohol in 100 ml of Blood contrary to section 253(1)(b) CCC

Careless Storage of Firearm contrary to section 86(1) CCC

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on May 11, 2017.

On Friday April 21, 2017 shortly before 9pm officers responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway 7 between Peace Road and Lilac Road. Two persons were occupants of the vehicle – an adult passenger sustained serious injuries. An investigation was commenced and as a result 55 year old Kimberly SERROUL of Omemee was charged with the following offences:

Driving a Motor Vehicle While Impaired contrary to section 253(1)(a) CCC

Driving With More Than 80 mgs of Alcohol in 100 ml of Blood contrary to section 253(1)(b) CCC

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on May 18, 2017.

On Sunday April 23, 2017 shortly before 3:30am officers commenced an investigation in Fenelon Falls as a result of observing some erratic driving. As a result 29 year old, Andrew TYE, of Cambray was arrested and charged with the following offences:

Driving With More Than 80mgs of Alcohol in 100ml of Blood contrary to section 253(1)(b) CCC

Possession of Marihuana contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on May 18, 2017.

As summer and warmer weather approaches the OPP would like to remind drivers that if they are planning on drinking or consuming drugs to ensure they have a safe way home. Don’t drive impaired!
