K9 Unit Finds Truck Thief Hiding In Vegitation

(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) On Saturday December 06, 2014, around 5 a.m. Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were advised that a pickup truck had just been stolen from a driveway in Fullarton.

Officers immediately commenced patrolling the area in search of the vehicle. Shortly after 5 a.m. officers spotted the stolen truck on Perth Road 163 near Line 8, where they pulled over the vehicle. As officers approached the truck it sped away. The officers followed the truck in their cruiser for a short distance into Rannoch, where the pickup truck stopped and the male driver ran from the vehicle. Officers set up containment in the area and shortly thereafter an OPP West Region Canine Unit located the male hiding underneath vegetation.

Paul RAYNER (41) of Stratford has been charged with “theft under $5,000 of a motor vehicle”, “flight while pursued by peace officer”, and with “driving while disqualified” contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He remains in custody pending the outcome of a bail hearing set for Monday December 08, 2014 at the Stratford Ontario Court of Justice.
