K9 Tracks Down Male That Rammed Kia Until It Damaged A Residence

(PORT HOPE, ON) – On Sunday December 21, 2014 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended to a residence in the Municipality of Port Hope where a motor vehicle had been struck several times and end up pushing a second vehicle into the side of a residence.

At about 11:49 pm on Sunday, OPP officers responded to a home on County Road 28 where a male had been arguing with three occupants. He left the residence and got into a Chevrolet motor vehicle where he struck a nearby Kia deliberately several times. The repeated collisions caused the Kia to go into the side of the residence creating significant damage to the side of the house.

The male had then left the scene in the Chevrolet. OPP conducted an investigation into locating the male with the assistance of OPP’s Central Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Canine (K9) team members. The male was located about three and 1/2 hours later. He was arrested and taken into custody without incident.

A 25 year old male from Bewdley has been arrested and charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code:

Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
Mischief over $5,000
Unlawfully in a dwelling house
Fail to stop at scene of an accident
Mischief – Domestic – 3 Counts
Driving while under suspension – Highway Traffic Act.

The accused was held for a bail hearing on Monday December 22, 2014 at 1:30 pm at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.

The man’s name is not being released in order to protect the identity of the victim.
