K9 Tracks Down Drunk Driver

(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) On December 28, 2014, just before 8:30 a.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a complaint of a Chevrolet Impala driving erratically on Highway 401 eastbound, near Queens Line.

The vehicle was located and stopped eastbound near Harwich Road. While the officer was speaking with the lone male driver, the driver fled the scene in the vehicle, nearly striking the officer. The driver crossed the centre median and travelled westbound on Highway 401. The vehicle then exited the highway at Communication Road and struck a guard rail.

The officer located the vehicle, and found that the driver had fled the scene. The OPP Canine Unit attended and the male was located at a nearby residence. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen from Windsor.

It was also determined that he had been consuming alcoholic beverages, which was in contravention of a condition that he was previously placed on. Subsequent tests indicated that the driver was over the legal limit.

The 21 year old male from Windsor will appear in a Chatham court on December 31, 2014, to answer to the following charges:

Possession Property Obtained By Crime Over $5000

Dangerous Operation Of Motor Vehicle
