JUMPSTART FOUNDATION GETS FINANCIAL BOOST FROM TOURNAMENT

(North Glengarry) – On June 14th, 2014, the Poirier family hosted the annual Raymond “Pee Wee” Poirier Memorial Baseball Tournament in Alexandria. Proceeds from the event were donated to the local Canadian Tire Jumpstart Foundation chapter.

One in three Canadian families cannot afford to enrol their kids in organized sports and physical activity (Vision Critical, 2011) which means many kids are missing out on the benefits that come with organized play. Canadian Tire Jumpstart is a nationally registered charity dedicated to removing financial barriers so kids across Canada have the opportunity to get off the sidelines and into the game.

Whether it’s the chance to try a sport for the very first time or to continue with a favourite physical activity, Jumpstart makes it possible for all kids to participate. We see it as equipping kids for life because quality physical activity in kids does more than improve health and well-being. It helps build confidence, leadership, productivity and creativity.

SD&G OPP is a proud to be associated to the Alexandria chapter. Yearly donations of thousands of dollars come from the annual SD&G OPP Golf Tournament. In its three (3) years of existence, this chapter has assisted over 400 local youths covering costs of approximately $52,000!!

The Poirier tournament was a huge success with $3924.30 going to this worthy cause, specifically to hockey programs in honour of the late Mr Poirier’s love of the game!!
