(THUNDER BAY, ON) On Sunday, July 26, 2015 at approximately 5:16 pm, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a two vehicle collision on Highway 61, north of Neebing Avenue. When officers arrived at the scene, they observed both vehicles involved in the collision to be situated on the shoulder of the road. It appeared that one vehicle struck the other from behind. There were no injuries reported.
While speaking with the driver, the officers detected an odour of alcohol emitting from the drivers breath. Subsequently, the driver was found to be over the legal limit.
Upon conducting a search of the driver and the vehicle, officers located a small amount of Cocaine, and a spring loaded knife.
Joshua TROTZ, 26 years of age, from Thunder Bay, was arrested and charged with the following offences:
-Operate a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 mgs of Alcohol,
-Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon,
-Fail to Comply with Conditions of Undertaking, all contrary to the Criminal Code.
-Possession of a Schedule l Substance – Cocaine, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
-Drive While Under Suspension,
-Use Plate not Authorized for Vehicle, both contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
-Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.
He was held in custody for a video court appearance and was remanded into custody.
