Joseph WITHERS Arrested On Hwy 11

(MUNICIPALITY OF POWASSAN, ON) – At 4:45 p.m., on April 30, 2018, officers from the Powassan Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Highway 11 in the Municipality of Powassan, Ontario.

The officer spoke to the driver who gave the officer verbal identification. The officer became suspicious of the male and investigated further finding that the male had given police a false name.

As a result of police investigation, Joseph WITHERS, age 31, of the Municipality of Callander, Ontario, was arrested and charged with the following:

Obstruct Peace Officer x 2 contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);

Driving while Disqualified contrary to section 259(4) of the CC; and

Personation with Intent to Avoid Arrest, Prosecution or Obstruct Justice contrary to section 403(1)(d) of the CC.

The accused was held for bail court at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay, today, and was released on a Recognizance to attend court on May 8, 2018.

The vehicle was impounded for 45 days.
