(Central Huron, ON) – Huron OPP officers set up a RIDE checkpoint on London Road at Base Line Road on July 11, 2011 at approximately 1:00 am. While doing the RIDE check the driver of a pickup truck was spoken to and the odour of an alcoholic beverage was detected on breath. The officer formed the grounds to read a demand for the driver to provide a roadside sample of his breath. The driver complied and failed his test. He was then arrested and taken to the Huron OPP Detachment where he met with a qualified Intoxilizer Technician to provide two more samples of his breath. The results confirmed that the male had a blood alcohol level that was in excess of the legal limit of 80 milligrams.
As a result of the RIDE checkpoint, John MACLEOD (52) of Huron Township has been charged with one count of Drive With Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. He will answer to his charge in the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on August 29th. His licence was also suspended for 90 days as per statute.
