(ESPANOLA, ON)- On December 11, 2016, at approximately 11:09 a.m., members from the Espanola Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) initiated a traffic stop on Highway 17, in the township of Sables-Spanish Rivers.
As a result of the investigation, it was found that the male driver was disqualified from driving and was on probation.
John HUGHES, 57 years of age, from Massey, was arrested and charged with the following:
Driving while disqualified, contrary to section 259(4) of the Criminal Code – 2 counts
Fail to comply with probation order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code – 2 counts
Driving while under suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act
The vehicle the accused was operating was towed and impounded for 45 days under the Vehicle Impoundment Program (VIP).
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice.
