(RED LAKE, ON) – On March 3rd, 2014 officers from the Red Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check in Balmertown, Ontario when an approaching motor vehicle almost struck the officers. The officers were able to stop the vehicle and while speaking to the driver the officers observed him to be displaying signs of impairment.
As of result of the investigation Jim Jr Strang, age 24 of Pikangikum Ontario was charged with Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle contrary to section 249(1)(a) of the Criminal Code, Driving while Ability Impaired contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code, Driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code and three counts of failing to comply with a Justice of the Peace Recognizance contrary to section 145(3) of the Criminal Code.
