(BRIGHTON, ON) – On Monday December 1, 2014 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint on Highway 401 of an erratic driver speeding and black smoke coming out of a black sedan eastbound from the Port Hope area.
An OPP officer set up observation on the east bound lanes of the 401 and at about 10:30 am located the vehicle 1993 black Hyundai Elantra east of Smithfield Road overpass in the Municipality of Brighton. The officer entered into an investigation to the vehicle and the occupants.
Jerome Brian TOMLINSON, 25 from Ottawa, Ontario has been served summonses for the following offences:
Driving while under suspension and use plates not authorized for motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
Owner – operate motor vehicle on highway – No Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.
The accused was released with the summonses to appear in the Provincial Offences Act Court on Wednesday January 7, 2014 at 9:00 am .
The Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act states “Every owner or lessee of a motor vehicle who is guilty of an offence and is liable on a first conviction to a fine of not less than $5,000 and not more than $25,000 and on a subsequent conviction to a fine of not less than $10,000 and not more than $50,000 and, in addition, his or her driver’s licence may be suspended for a period of not more than one year.†(R.S.O. 1990, c. C.25, s. 2 (3); 1996, c. 21, s. 50 (4); 2002, c. 22, s. 33.
