(NORTH HURON, ON) – An impaired driver was recently stopped and arrested for driving around the village of Blyth in a power golf cart. On October 21, 2012 just after 2:00 a.m. a Huron County OPP officer observed a green EZGO golf cart driving northbound on Mill Street with no headlights. The officer stopped the driver and upon speaking with the driver the officer determined the male was under the influence of alcohol. An open bottle of alcohol was also observed sticking out of the driver’s coat pocket.
Jason STRYKER, age 31 from North Huron has been charged with Impaired Driving and Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. He has a court date scheduled for Ontario Court of Justice – Wingham on December 13, 2012. He received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and the golf cart was impounded.
A golf cart is considered a “motor vehicle†under the Criminal Code. If you operate a golf cart anywhere in Canada while impaired by alcohol or drug you are subject to the law and will face the same consequences as if you were driving an automobile.
