Jason MCKAY – 153 in an 80

(ZORRA TOWNSHIP, ON.) – On September 22, 2013, shortly after 2:30 a.m., the Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police observed a blue Volkswagen Jetta travelling eastbound on Road 68, at a speed of 153 km/h in a posted 80km/h zone. The driver, a 28 year old male from Woodstock, was stopped and has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act.

Jason MCKAY was charged with Drive Motor Vehicle-Perform Stunt-Speeding by 50 or more kilometres under the Highway Traffic Act.

The vehicle was impounded for the prescribed 7-day period and his driver’s license is suspended for 7 days.

The Township of Zorra has had a newly acquired speed sign within its communities over the past several months. This sign allows data to be collected and shared with the police to help determine areas to target with ongoing radar patrol. Road 68 was one of the roads indicated to have a higher volume of speed violations. The highly visible speed sign was out on several occasions in hopes that the driving public would be educated about the posted speed zones in that area. The sign will continue to be placed in areas around the Township and will no doubt prove to be a valuable tool in reducing high risk driving behavior.

Drivers who engage in high risk driving behavior put everyone at risk. Speeding makes it more difficult for drivers to react to changes, stop suddenly and control a vehicle. In the case of a collision, the higher the speed the more severe the collision and the more likely that serious injuries or death will occur.

O.P.P. would like to remind the motoring public to manage their time and respect all the rules of the road when travelling.
