James Michael BELLAND – Drunk Driving, Drugs

(NORTH BAY, ON) – On February 11, 2017 at 7:47 a.m. the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of a traffic complaint on Highway (Hwy) 63 in Poitras Township. The involved vehicle was said to be broken down on the shoulder of the road and that the driver was impaired. Officers attended the scene and as a result of the investigation James Michael BELLAND 34, of Kipawa Quebec was arrested and charged with the following:

• Impaired Driving contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)

• Over 80 contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the CC

• Possession of a schedule I substance – Cocaine contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drug and Substances Act (CDSA).

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear and is set to attend the North Bay Court of Justice on March 7, 2017.

The OPP is reminding drivers that any amount of alcohol or other drugs can impair one’s ability to drive.
