(ESPANOLA, ON) – At 9:47 p.m., on May 12, 2016, members from the Espanola Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single vehicle motor vehicle collision on Highway 17, near Jacklin road in the township of Baldwin, east of Espanola.
Investigation revealed a westbound passenger car travelling at a high rate of speed left the roadway, entered the north ditch and skidded along and collided with a billboard. It was also determined that the driver had consumed alcohol.
Jake TRUDEAU, 27 years of age, from Sucker Creek First Nation, was arrested and charged with the following offences:
Driving while ability impaired – motor vehicle (Alcohol), contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.
Driving with more than 80 milligrams, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.
Driving while disqualified – court order, contrary to section 259(4) of the Criminal Code.
Dangerous operation of motor vehicle, contrary to section 249(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.
Driving while under suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.
The accused will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola, on June 7, 2016, to answer to his charges.
The OPP is reminding motorists that there is no safe amount of alcohol or drug consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
