Earlier this year the London Police Cyber Crimes unit arrested a male in possession of child pornography and seized several electronic storage devices belonging to the accused. The devices were examined by the London Police Forensic Computer Analysis unit and it was discovered the accused was actively using several smartphone applications to obtain and share child pornography. Further data was extracted from the devices and a location in Florida, USA was identified where a child may have been abused. This information was forwarded to the Department of Homeland Security (USA). The Department of Homeland Security worked in partnership with Polk County Sherriff’s Office and were able to rescue a 10-year-old who had been videoed while being sexually abused at the location. Polk County Sherriff’s Office have charged a male in relation to the sexual abuse.
The London Police Service is a member of the Provincial Strategy to protect children from sexual abuse and exploitation on the internet. The Strategy has been made possible by a grant from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.
This investigation is ongoing therefore the accused, locations and smartphone applications cannot be identified at this time.
