(Thunder Bay, ON.) – On July 10, 2014 at approximately 3:00 p.m., officers of the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an industrial accident occurring at the Lac Des Iles Mine located on Highway 527 near Thunder Bay, ON.
Investigation revealed that a 38 year old male employee of the mine was working at moving rocks with a load haul machine 825 metres below the surface when he became pinned under a large rock. Mine rescue responded but the worker was pronounced dead at the scene.
The OPP is working in consultation with the Ministry of Labour. No name is being released at this time pending the notification of next of kin.
