Impaired Hit And Run Driver Tries To Hide From Police In Wooded Area

(Douro-Dummer Township, ON) – Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to attend a single vehicle collision on Peterborough County Road 32 (River Road) near the Eighth Line of Douro last night just before 7:30pm.

Responding officers watched as the male driver fled into a wooded area. Additional officers were requested to assist including OPP Central Region Canine Unit and OPP Central Emergency Response Team (ERT). Just prior to Canine and ERT team arrival a male was located and was identified as being the driver of the crashed vehicle.

Robert Lucas ARDEN (age 27) of Wollaston Township was arrested and charged with:

Impaired Driving

Driving with more than 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood

Obstruct Police

Fail to remain at the scene of a collision

Driving while suspended

Operate a vehicle with no insurance

The accused has been held in custody pending a show cause hearing scheduled in the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough, ON later today.
