Impaired Driver Involved In Collision

(THAMES CENTRE, ON) – On January 22, 2016, at approximately 2:51 p.m., the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a single motor vehicle crash on Shaw Road.

A cream Chrysler car had been travelling northbound on Shaw Road, and turned west onto Trafalgar Street, where it left the roadway, and struck the gate of a fenced hydro compound.

Officers located the vehicle turning southbound onto Shaw Road from the scene. They determined the male driver had been drinking alcohol. He was arrested, and transported to a Middlesex County OPP detachment for breath tests, which revealed he had consumed more than twice the legal limit of alcohol.

As a result of the police investigation, 21-year-old Ryan PARSONS, from Thames Centre, Ontario, has been charged with driving while ability impaired – motor vehicle (alcohol), and driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC). He was additionally charged with novice driver – B.A.C. above zero, and careless driving, under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA). He was further charged under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA) with fail to surrender insurance card.

The accused was released from police custody by way of a Promise to Appear (PTA), and is scheduled to answer the charges before the London courts on February 25, 2016.
