IMPAIRED DRIVER ARRESTED

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – On October 18, 2014 information was received by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) regarding a vehicle being operated by an impaired driver. As a result of this information OPP officers patrolled the area and located the vehicle.

An officer from the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the OPP observed the vehicle being operated in an erratic manner on Killarney Bay Road south of Glenarm Road and subsequently stopped the vehicle. The officer determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol.

As a result of the investigation the driver, Dennis MACKENZIE, 46 years of age, of Fenelon Falls, was arrested and charged with impaired driving and driving while having more than 80mgs of alcohol in 100mls of blood contrary to the Criminal Code. Dennis MACKENZIE was further charged with driving while suspended, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused will appear in court, in Lindsay, on November 20, 2014.

Further investigation indicated that the vehicle did not have proper licence plates, was not properly registered and did not have insurance. As a result, the passenger, Michael MACKENZIE, 19 years of age, of Peterborough was charged with the related offences.
