Impaired ATV Driver Narrowly Misses OPP Cruiser

(North Kawartha Township, ON) – Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated an ATV rider in the Village of Apsley just before 4:00pm yesterday.

The officer was refueling a cruiser at the Shell gas station on Burleigh Street, when an ATV entered the parking lot at high speed. The rider slid the machine sideways narrowly missing the cruiser and parked in a nearby garage bay. The rider attempted to walk away from the officer but was arrested.

Michael COPPINS (age 20) of North Kawartha Township was held in custody and has a bail hearing scheduled for later today. The accused faces numerous charges:

Impaired driving

Driving with more than 80mg of alcohol in his blood

Dangerous driving

Fail to comply with a condition of an undertaking
