(TOWNSHIP OF ESSA) – At approximately 5:15 PM, on Sunday, December 18, 2016, members of the Nottawasaga Detachment, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), responded to a multi vehicle crash on Highway 89 between the 9th and 10th Line of Essa Township.
A westbound Ford truck was in the process of passing other vehicles when the driver lost control, travelled into the eastbound lane where it came into collision with an eastbound U-Haul rental truck. A third vehicle was struck with flying debris from the impact and a fourth vehicle went into the ditch to avoid contact.
The drivers of the Ford and the U-Haul both suffered minor injuries as well as the passenger in the U-Haul vehicle. The drivers of the other two vehicles were not injured.
The driver of the Ford vehicle, Oleg MAXIMOV, age 57 years, of Newmarket, has been charged with Impaired Driving and Drive with over. 80 mg of alcohol in blood. He was released on a Promise of Appear and has a court date in January.
