HUMAN REMAINS LOCATED IN COTTAGE FIRE

(Havelock Belmont Methuen Township, ON) – On Saturday, October 25, at approximately 6:00 a.m., members of the Peterborough County OPP and Havelock Belmont Methuen Fire department were dispatched to the scene of a cottage fire on Fire Route 63B.

A cottage owner contacted the emergency services shortly after 5:00 a.m. to report a neighbouring cottage being destroyed by fire. Upon the extinguishing of the fire, authorities located human remains in the destroyed structure.

The Coroner Office is conducting an investigation at this time with the assistance of Members of the Peterborough County OPP Crime Unit and the Office of the Fire Marshall. An examination of the scene has been completed in an effort to determine the cause of the fire. A post mortem has been ordered.

Although the fire remains under investigation, it is not deemed to be suspicious in nature at this time.
