Human Remains Found In Mindemoya

(MINDEMOYA, ON) – On Tuesday, May 3, 2016 members of the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of found human remains in a wooded area in Mindemoya, Ontario.

An OPP investigation with the assistance of Forensic Anthropologists from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services (MCSCS) is underway and has confirmed that the remains are human.

The Sudbury/Manitoulin OPP Crime Unit under the direction of Detective Staff Sergeant Paul Rosato of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) is assisting. The OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS) and OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) are also assisting with the investigation.

There is no concern for public safety at this time. The OPP will continue to carry out a thorough and professional investigation into this discovery and further information will be provided only as it becomes available.
