Homeowner Awakened By Burglar In Home

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) On Wednesday October 20, 2010 shortly before 2 a.m. Perth County OPP officers were dispatched to a rural residence on Perth Line 88 West of Gowanstown, where a homeowner had interrupted a burglary.

The male resident who had been sleeping on the living room his couch woke up from a noise in his kitchen. Upon entering the kitchen he observed an unknown male standing there. The male explained that he and a friend had run out of gas and his friend was checking for gas at the neighbours. The homeowner went to his shed to look for a gasoline container when he noticed that items in his shed had been moved about and certain small valuable tools had been placed near the door. While walking past his pickup truck he saw his air compressor and bicycle loaded in the box of the truck. The homeowner ran back into his kitchen to find that his truck keys had been stolen and the male had left. The homeowner immediately contacted police.

The suspect was described as a Caucasian male in his early 40’s approximately 5’8” (173 cm), 160 lbs (73 kg) with medium length dark hair wearing blue jeans and a black leather coat.

The Perth County OPP are requesting anyone who may have observed a male matching the above description walking along Line 88 in the Gowanstown area during the night to contact them at 1-888-310-1122. Police continue to remind residents to lock their vehicles, homes and outbuildings in an attempt to thwart these crimes of opportunity.
