(CALEDON, ON) – On November 15th, 2014 at 10:40 pm, the driver of a white Dodge Sprinter travelling northbound on Regional Road 50 rear-ended a Dodge pick-up truck. In order to evade the victim, the driver of the Sprinter made a U-turn and proceeded southbound on Regional Road 50. The victim made a U-turn as well and followed the offender while calling police. The suspect was observed turning west on Mayfield Road then proceeded north on Coleraine Drive. The suspect then entered a private driveway and fled on foot in a corn field. K-9 and Emergency Response Team (ERT) members were called to attend the scene. At 12:35 am, the suspect was located hiding in a sea-container near the Parr Avenue and Simpson Road intersection. The driver had a previous impaired conviction and was still currently under the 90-day mandatory Automatic Drivers’ Licence Suspension.
In conclusion, Saad Ibn ALI, 25, from Napanee was arrested and charged with Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and is facing 2 Highway Traffic Act of Ontario charges, Careless Driving and Driving While Under Suspension.
The driver was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on December 18th, 2014.
