HIGHWAY SAFETY IS EVERYONE’S BUSINESS

(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – Between June 16, 2014 and July 6, 2014, the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated 44 collisions across the detachment area. At seven of these scenes, someone was hurt; minor injuries reported at 2, serious injuries reported at 4 and 1 person died and another was seriously injured at a crash. Six of these crashes happened during daylight hours.

In 2013, the South Bruce OPP investigated 892 motor vehicle collisions. The contributing factor at 235 of those scenes was violating rules of the road, while the contributing factor at 125 scenes was inattentive driver.

“Highway crashes are not accidents – they are predictable and therefore preventable. Failure to attend to your driving combined with violating the rules of the road will result in a collision. The seriousness of the crash will be dictated by the speeds involved. It is not a matter of “if” it will happen, but “when”. Please drive in a manner that will guarantee your safe arrival at your destination“- Inspector Scott Smith, Detachment Commander, South Bruce OPP.
