Hawkesbury Police Press Releases

HIT AND RUN – SOUGHT DRIVER ARRESTED AND CHARGED

(CHAMPLAIN, ON) – The Hawkesbury Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a motor vehicle collision that occurred at the intersection of Highway 34 and Greenlane Road in Champlain where the driver of a vehicle involved had failed to remain at the scene of the collision.

On Wednesday November 04th, shortly before 2:30 pm, police were called to investigate a motor vehicle collision where a vehicle had struck the side wall of a business building and a parked vehicle at the intersection of Highway 34 and Greenlane Road in Champlain.

The suspect refused to wait for police and fled the scene of the collision, driving in a dangerous manner and at a high rate of speed with two passengers on board. Direction of travel and description of the suspect vehicle was provided to police, he was then spotted driving dangerously in Hawkesbury. After dropping off both passengers in town, the suspect vehicle failed to stop for police and almost collided head on with a police cruiser and then clipped a second cruiser without causing damage before fleeing the scene once again. Police managed to obtain the license plate number of the suspect vehicle. Same was attached to the wrong vehicle as it was registered to a black Nissan instead of the black Ford Mustang involved in the incident.

The suspect vehicle was later observed by police travelling on Highway 417 at an excessive high rate of speed and once again, failed to stop for police. The black Ford Mustang had severe front end damages. Police were on the hunt of the suspect vehicle and its driver.

The suspect was later identified as Samuel AUGER (18 yrs) of St-Jacques Road in Russell Township. He was arrested and charged the next day under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following sections:

– 249.1(1) Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer

– 249(1)(a) Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle

– 270.01(1)(a) Assault A Peace Officer with a weapon

– 279(2) Forcible Confinement (2 counts)

He was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with the following sections:

– 200(1)(a) Fail to remain (2 counts)

– 12(1)(d) Use plate not authorized for vehicle

Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was not insured.

He was also charged under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act with the following section:

– 2(1)(a) Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

The set minimum fine for driving without insurance is $5000.

He was later released and scheduled to appear at court on December 02nd, 2015 in L’Orignal.

STOLEN VEHICLE TRAPPED IN FARMERS’ FIELD

(EAST HAWKESBURY, ON) – On Thursday November 05th, shortly before 8:30 pm, Hawkesbury OPP officers responded to a single motor vehicle collision on La Grande Montee Road in East Hawkesbury.

Investigation revealed that the driver of a 2014 black Ford F150 had lost control and went into the ditch ending up into a farmers’ field. The driver had walked away from the scene of the collision.

Constable Bradley Giroux, assisted by the OPP Canine Unit and Emergency Response Team (ERT), attended the scene and located the driver in proximity of the collision site. The driver did not sustain any injuries.

Investigation also revealed that the vehicle had been stolen from a business in Chateauguay Quebec.

Consequently, the driver, Matthieu NORMAND (28 yrs) of no fixed address, was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following section:

– 354(1)(a) Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 – in Canada

He was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with the following section:

– 32(1) Drive motor vehicle – no licence

– 130 Careless driving

He was not released and kept for a bail hearing scheduled the next day on November 06th, 2015 at L’Orignal court.

BREAK AND ENTER

(CHAMPLAIN, ON) – The Hawkesbury OPP is investigating a break and enter that occurred in a garage situated at a residence on Bay Road in Champlain Township.

It is believed that the break-in occurred sometime between November 02nd and November 05th, 2015. Someone entered the garage and stole a red Honda 2000 Watts generator worth approximately $3,000.

IMPAIRED DRIVER

(ALFRED-PLANTAGENET, ON) – On Saturday evening November 07th, shortly before 10:30 pm, Hawkesbury OPP officers, Constable Natasha Huygen and Jean-Michel Maceus responded to a single motor vehicle collision that occurred on County Road 15 near Concession Road 10 in Alfred-Plantagenet.

The driver had lost control of his 2014 white Chevrolet Cruz when approaching a curve, ending up on its roof in the ditch. The driver sustained minor injuries.

Interaction with the male driver gave the officer reason to believe that he had his abilities to drive a motor vehicle impaired by alcohol.

Consequently, the driver, Luc BEAUCLAIR (28 yrs) of County Road 34, South Glengarry, was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following sections:

– 253(1)(a) Driving While Ability Impaired- motor vehicle (Alcohol)

– 253(1)(b) Driving with More than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood.

He was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with the following section:

– 130 Careless Driving

He was later released and scheduled to appear at court on December 02nd, 2015 in L’Orignal.

MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISON

OPP needs the assistance of the public

(CHAMPLAIN, ON) – The Hawkesbury Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) needs the assistance of the public to locate a driver in relation to a motor vehicle collision that occurred on Sunday November 08th, at approximately 11:45 am, on Highway 34 near Pleasant Corner Road in Champlain.

The investigation revealed that a black Chevrolet Impala was overtaking vehicles traveling northbound on Highway 34 when it was cut off by a dark red or black Small Utility Vehicle (SUV) who also attempted to overtake vehicles in the same direction. To avoid a collision, the driver of the black Impala swerved and lost control of the vehicle which left the roadway and entered the ditch where it subsequently struck a Hydro pole. The driver of the SUV stopped at the scene and then drove away.

The 41 year old male driver of Vankleek Hill sustained non-life threatening injuries and was later released from the hospital.

The matter is still under investigation.
