THIS WEEK IN POLICING
In the week of February 29th to March 07th, Hawkesbury Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to 133 occurrences. One break and enter incident was reported. Five incidents of assault and four incidents of theft were reported. In the last week, officers investigated one impaired driving related incident. Out of these 133 occurrences, 14 concluded with charges.
DOMESTIC INVESTIGATIONS
Hawkesbury OPP officers responded to 7 domestic disputes during the past week. One female was charged with assault, mischief and two counts of uttering threats; one male was charged with two counts of fail to comply with Recognizance; and one male was charged with assault, uttering threats and two counts of mischief.
BREAK AND ENTER
(HAWKESBURY, ON) – Constable Marc Lauzon of the Hawkesbury OPP is investigating a daytime break and enter incident that occurred between 2:00pm and 8:00pm on March 05th at a residence situated on Regent Street in Hawkesbury.
The investigation would suggest that someone entered the residence by breaking in through the front door, stealing electronics worth approximately $6,900
The following items were taken from the residence:
– Flat screen tv, 70” Sharp, black in color with wall mount
– Flat screen tv, 48” GE
– Sound bar, Samsung, black in color
– Blu Ray player, Samsung, black in color
– Laptop, 14” Samsung, black in color
– Microwave, Panasonic, stainless steel
The matter is still under investigation.

IMPAIRED DRIVER
(EAST HAWKESBURY, ON) – On Sunday evening, March 06th, shortly before 10:30pm, Hawkesbury OPP officers responded to a single motor vehicle collision rolled over on Highway 417, eastbound lane at mile marker 4.
The 2007 grey Mazda3 was driven off the road, up onto the snowbank before rolling back down onto the shoulder. The driver, lone occupant, did not sustain any injuries.
Interaction with the male driver gave the officer reason to believe that he had his abilities to drive a motor vehicle impaired by alcohol.
Consequently, the driver, Frederic SERRE (53 yrs) of Laurier Street in Montreal, was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following sections:
– 253(1)(a) Driving While Ability Impaired- motor vehicle (Alcohol)
– 253(1)(b) Driving with More than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood.
The vehicle was seized for 7 days and the driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days.
He was later released and scheduled to appear at court on March 23rd, 2016 in L’Orignal.
OPP REMINDING MOTORIST TO STAY A SAFE DISTANCE FROM SNOW MAINTENANCE EQUIPMENT
(HAWKESBURY, ON) – The Hawkesbury OPP Detachment would like to remind motorists to remain a safe distance from snow maintenance equipment.

Leaving Room for Plows:
Remain a safe distance back from maintenance equipment when you see blue flashing lights. To do the job right, snow plows and salt & sand trucks must travel slower than regular traffic.
Stay Well Back to Help Snow Plows do Their Job!
Never pass a snow plow! It is extremely dangerous to pass either between or around snow plows because of whiteout conditions and the ridge of snow being passed between plows.
At no time should a vehicle pass a snow plow. This could result in a severe, even fatal, collision.
Please remember to slow down and keep a safe distance between other vehicles.
