(Havelock Belmont Methuen Twp., ON) – On Sunday August 18, Peterborough County OPP wrapped up their policing duties at the 24th annual Havelock Jamboree on Mary Street in Havelock.
The 2013 Havelock Jamboree ran this year between Thursday August 15 and Sunday August 18. Once again the Peterborough County OPP officers and auxiliary OPP officers provided 24 hour policing for the country music event. As in other years thousands of country music fans attended the festival that is situated on the outskirts of the Village of Havelock.
In order to ensure their safety the OPP, Emergency Medical Services, the Havelock Fire Department, St. Johns Ambulance, Jamboree organizers, and numerous volunteers, set up security and other services to tend the needs of the large numbers of campers that attend the event.
Officers patrolled the event on foot and OPP all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) The majority of officers present being employed on a paid duty basis, as the event occurs on private property. The OPP Central Regions Mobile Command Unit, which is a specialized vehicle, was set up to act as a mobile detachment that provided all the resources necessary for the coordination of the policing at the event.
During the event this year officers received many different calls for service, some as simple as giving directions, or finding lost parties, to the investigation of minor assaults and thefts that occurred in the camp grounds.
In their efforts to ensure the overall safety of the public at the event OPP officers issued more than 50 provincial offences tickets during the Jamboree for violations against various provincial acts, including the Liquor Licence Act, Trespass to Property Act and the Highway Traffic Act.
