On November 13, 2016 at 4 a.m., Waterloo Regional Police officers stopped a vehicle on Lancaster Street West in Kitchener and noticed the occupants acting in a suspicious manner. When officers approached, they found a male passenger reclined in his seat, rolled onto his stomach and fidgeting with something beneath him. He was removed from the vehicle and a knife in a leather sheath was recovered from the passenger seat where he had been sitting. A further search of the vehicle and its occupants revealed a .38 caliber handgun, a small amount of drugs and some hunting equipment, including a crossbow that had been stolen from a break and enter near Owen Sound. A 39-year-old Harriston man and a 35-year-old Stratford man were held for a Show Cause hearing on a number of weapons, drug and property offences.
