Guelph Police Daily News Release – November 05, 2015

On November 4, 2015 at 8:14 p.m., the Guelph Police went to the Stone Road Mall to assist with a male that had been arrested by mall security. It is alleged that the male had approached two locked bicycles carrying bolt cutters. Security intervened and attempted to arrest him. The male tried to run and struck at the officer but he was restrained without further incident. The male had originally been riding a bicycle, this bike was determined to have been reported stolen as a result of a break and enter on Harrison Avenue and had an approximate value of over $5,000.

A 37-year-old Guelph male has been charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, attempt theft under $5,000, assault with intent to resist arrest and breach of recognizance. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on November 5, 2015.

Break and enter

On November 4, 2015 at 8:08 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a Harrison Avenue residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) cut the lock to the shed sometime overnight and stole three bicycles. The bikes had been locked inside the shed but their locks were also cut. One bike was recovered in the arrest at the Stone Road Mall.

Shoplifter arrested

On November 4, 2015 at 12:08 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a grocery store on Eramosa Road to assist with a shoplifting incident. It is alleged that a male and female were observed concealing candy and left without paying for it. A Loss Prevention Officer approached them outside and told them they were under arrest. The female ran from the area and the male told the officer he would punch him if he went after her. The male was arrested and charged.

A 15-year-old Rockwood male has been charged with theft under $5,000 and utter threats. He will appear in court on November 25, 2015.

Break and enter

On November 4, 2015, the Guelph Police went to a Wellington Street East building that is under construction to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered sometime overnight damaging recently poured concrete.

Theft from cars

On November 4, 2015 the Guelph Police received four reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Brentwood Drive, Marilyn Drive, Lonsdale Drive and Nicklin Crescent.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible.
