Guelph Police Daily News Release – 03Feb2017

On February 3rd, 2017 at approximately 12:40am, a 20 year-old intoxicated male was causing a disturbance at the downtown Transit Hub by impeding patrons from leaving a bus. City of Guelph By-law Enforcement Officers attempted to speak with the male who then attempted to assault those officers. Police were called to intervene and arrested Ali Zakaria of Guelph for causing a disturbance and assaulting a peace officer. He was released and is to appear before the court on March 14, 2017.

Disturbance at Bullfrog Mall

Just after 9pm on February 2nd, police were alerted to a man at the Bullfrog Mall yelling and threatening other patrons there. The 22 year-old suspect was located by police when they arrived and further investigation lead to the arrest of the male. Documents and property that belonged to someone else were also found when he was searched.

Karl Trento of Guelph was charged with possession of stolen property and breach of probation. He was released and will appear before the court on March 17, 2017.

Sword swinging incident

In the early afternoon hours of February 2nd, police responded to a report of a man who had been swinging a sword around in a Bristol Street residence. The responsible man was located at the residence and investigation led to the sword being recovered. The 48 year-old Guelph man was arrested and charged with weapons dangerous and is to appear in bail court today.

Break and Enter

There were no signs of forced entry when unknown suspect(s) entered the garage of a Sleeman Avenue home sometime overnight on February 2nd and took a laptop computer.
