(ADELAIDE-METCALFE TWP, ON) – Police have charged a male driver after he assaulted a female bystander who was trying to help at a collision scene.
On December 8, 2014 at approximately 11:51 a.m. Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a two vehicle collision in the area of Centre Road and Charles Boulevard in Adelaide-Metcalfe Township.
Police investigation revealed that a transport truck was rear ended by a pickup truck while travelling southbound on Centre Road. The pickup truck then ran off the roadway causing damage to a fence. As a female bystander approached the scene to assist, the male driver of the pickup approached her and assaulted her. The bystander sustained minor injuries as a result of the assault. In response, the transport truck driver restrained the male party until police arrived.
Once OPP arrived, it was apparent the pickup driver was impaired. Further investigation revealed he was in possession of a Schedule II substance- marijuana. He was arrested and brought to a local hospital for medical assessment and further testing in relation to his impairment.
As a result of the investigation, police have charged 18 year old Ryan DENHARTOG of Strathroy-Caradoc, ON with:
One count of Assault – Criminal Code of Canada
One count of Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle by drug – Criminal Code of Canada
One count of Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Marijuana – Controlled Drug and Substances Act
The accused was later released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in a London courtroom January 23, 2015 to speak to the charges.
