(BLUEWATER, ON) – A 77 year old male is in custody following his arrest last evening for Driving While Impaired and Driving a Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. Just after 5:30 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Zurich-Hensall Line at Blind Line.
The driver of a Hyundai sedan lost control of his vehicle and left the roadway at a high rate of speed. The vehicle rolled several times before it came to rest on its wheels in the ditch.
The driver was transported to hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries. Officers spoke with the male driver at the hospital and observed several signs that the driver had been drinking alcohol and his ability to drive was impaired by alcohol.
After the driver was medically cleared he was arrested and taken into custody for impaired driving. He was transported to the Exeter OPP detachment for breath tests. He provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician; Both tests were above the legal limit.
As a result, 77 year old Gilles JODOIN of Zurich has been charged with Impaired Driving and Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. He remains in custody with a bail hearing scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on March 13, 2014. He received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle has been impounded.
