Fraud

(Russell ON) On January 10, 2013 Constable Saghar Farnoosh responded to a fraud complaint in Russell. At the location the caller reported that she had been a victim of a fraud on Facebook. She accepted a friend’s request on Facebook. Then she was invited to participate in a contest on another website link. Before winning a large amount she was asked to forward some money to unblock a bank account in order to claim her price. The entire process turned out to be a fraud and caller lost some money. The OPP is reminding everyone to be very careful on internet deals that seem to be too nice to be true. If you are asked for money upfront think twice before sending money. These frauds come from other countries and are hard to be trace by police.
