DRIVER CHARGED AFTER FAILING TO STOP FOR POLICE

(MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ON)- On Sunday January 12, 2014 at 00:40 a.m. a member of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a speeding Acura motor vehicle, travelling westbound on Fanshawe Park Road near Aldersbrook Gate at speeds estimated to be almost double the posted speed limit. The officer attempted to complete a traffic stop on the speeding vehicle, at which time the vehicle increased its speed, failed to stop for police and fled the area. Due to concerns for public safety police terminated a suspect apprehension pursuit and the vehicle continued westbound.

A short time later police were advised by a witness that a white Acura motor vehicle was observed to pass them at a high rate of speed before entering a southbound ditch on Egremont Drive at Boston Drive. Police arrived on scene and the driver was placed under arrest without incident. No injuries were reported to police and the vehicle sustained minor damage.

As a result of an investigation police have charged the driver Bassel ELKADRI, age 18 of London, ON with:

Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle as per Section 249(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer as per Section 249.1(1) CC

The accused was released from police custody by way of an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear in a London court room on February 25, 2014 to speak to the charges.
