FORMOSA – Flight From Police

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – On April 24, 2016 at approximately 8:46 am an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer attempted to stop a vehicle on Highway 35, just south of Lindsay, for a driving offence.

The vehicle that was northbound at the time failed to stop for police when directed and continued eastbound on Highway 7. The officer had initiated a suspect apprehension pursuit, but terminated it out of concern for public safety.

The same vehicle was located a short time later, heading westbound on Highway 7 from the Omemee area. Police coordinated the deployment of a tire deflation device on Highway 7 between Slanted Road and River Road. Highway 7 was closed at Slanted Road.

The vehicle attempted to avoid the tire deflation device and in the process struck a police vehicle. Both, the driver of the suspect vehicle and the officer were treated at hospital for minor injuries and released.

Arrested and charged with the following offences is Raymond FORMOSA, 53 years of age, of Oshawa:

Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to section 249(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)

Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer contrary to section 249.1(1) CCC

Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)

Pass – roadway not clear – approaching traffic contrary to section 148(8)(a) HTA

The accused was held for a bail hearing in Lindsay court this morning.
