Former Wingham Scout Leader Faces Historical Sexual Assault Charges

(HURON COUNTY, ON) – Members of the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Criminal Investigations Unit have laid historical sexual assault charges against a North Huron resident.

The charges date back to events that occurred near the Town of Wingham between the summers of 1976 and 1978. When these offences were committed the accused was volunteering as Scout Leader with the Wingham Scout Troop.

The victims, two young teenaged boys had met the accused through Scouting activities.

Police have charged 71- year-old Martin CRETIER from North Huron with four counts of Indecent Assault contrary to Section 156 of the 1977 Criminal Code and four counts of Act of Gross Indecency contrary to Section 157 of the 1977 Criminal Code.

The accused was arrested on September 16, 2015. He has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for October 15, 2015 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Wingham.
