(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – Between May 31, 2015 and June 21, 2015 the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged 5 motorists with impaired driving offences.
1). After 2 a.m. on Sunday May 31, 2015 an OPP officer in Mitchell was flagged down by a concerned motorist who reported observing a vehicle weaving all over the road. The officer located a vehicle travelling westbound in the eastbound lane of Hwy 8 in Mitchell. The male driver of the vehicle displayed signs of impairment and was transported to the Perth County OPP Detachment in Sebringville, where he refused to provide samples of his breath as required.
Adam PATTERSON (28) of South Huron has been charged with “driving while ability impaired by alcohol”, and “fail or refuse to provide sample” contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on June 29, 2015 to answer to these charges.
2). On Tuesday June 09, 2015 shortly after 5 p.m., a Perth County OPP officer while responding to a traffic complaint in St.Marys observed a minivan reversing out of a private driveway. The officer spoke to the driver of the van who displayed signs of impairment. The male was transported to the Perth County OPP Detachment in Sebringville where he failed two Intoxilyzer Breath Tests.
Robert JACKSON (69) of St.Marys has been charged with “driving while ability impaired by alcohol”, and “driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in 100 ml of blood”, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on July 27, 2015, where he will have to answer to the charges.
3). On Wednesday June 17, 2015 shortly before 11 p.m., a Perth County OPP officer pulled over a pickup truck for speeding along Perth Road 119 north of Gads Hill. The odour of an alcoholic beverage was detected on the driver’s breath. The male driver failed a roadside breath test and also failed a subsequent Intoxilyzer breath test at the Perth County OPP Detachment in Sebringville.
Troy REX (49) of the Township of Perth East has been charged with “driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in 100 ml of blood” contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He was also charged with “speeding” contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario. He has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on July 20, 2015, where he will have to answer to the charges.
4). On Saturday June 20, 2015 around 3 p.m. a Perth County OPP officer on patrol observed a vehicle parked in a driveway at the Optimist Park along Line 87 north of Listowel. The officer noted that a male was sleeping in the driver’s seat. The male was awakened and a strong odour of an alcoholic beverage was detected on his breath. The male driver failed a roadside breath test and also failed a subsequent Intoxilyzer breath test at the Wellington County OPP Teviotdale Detachment.
Paul WILHELM (41) of Hawkesville has been charged with, “care or control of a motor vehicle, over 80 mgs”, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice in Listowel on July 22, 2015, where he will have to answer to the charge.
5). On Sunday June 21, 2015 around 2:30 a.m., a Perth County OPP officer spoke to a motorist on Road 136 west of Milverton. The male driver of the car was found to have the odour of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. He was administered a roadside breath test which he failed and was transported to the Listowel OPP Detachment where he also failed Intoxilyzer breath tests.
Tanner DINIZ (20) of the Township of Perth East has been charged with, “drive with over 80 mgs of alcohol in 100mls of blood”, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on July 27, 2015, where he will have to answer to the charge.
*** The above drivers received automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspensions and their motor vehicles have been impounded for a period of seven days.
