(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – Across the Province, three people died in three separate motor vehicle collisions (MVC) and two other people died in a single marine incident, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)’s preliminary Civic Long Weekend fatality report.
As part of its efforts to keep the public safe over the long weekend, the OPP released a series of videos that serve to reinforce the importance of wearing a lifejacket or personal floatation device (PFD) when heading out on the water.
The videos were produced in response to the high number of fatal marine incidents in which the absence of a worn lifejacket or PFD was a causal factor. To view the videos, or to obtain more information about lifejacket and PFD use, click on the following link:

In addition, officers investigated 7 motor vehicle collisions with serious injuries reported at one of the scenes.
“I appreciate the efforts of the media and our community safety partners in helping to promote safety this past weekend. The driver plays an important role in public safety and I thank those that choose to drive safely. I assure you that the South Bruce OPP will continue to identify and address unsafe driving behaviors as we work to improve safety on the roads, trails and waterways†– Acting Inspector Dana Earley, Detachment Commander, South Bruce OPP.
