Five Charged At RIDE

(LATCHFORD, ON) – On July 24, 2015 members of the Temagami Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere Program (RIDE) on Highway 11, Latchford.

At approximately 7:30 p.m. a pick-up truck approached the RIDE program. Through investigation the driver, Kevin LUNN, 45, of Innisfil is charged with Possess Unmarked Cigarettes – section 29(2) of the Tobacco Tax Act.

At approximately 7:43 p.m. police checked the status of a driver in a sports utility vehicle (SUV). Through investigation Kyle ROCKBURN, 20, of Cobalt is currently charged with Possession of a Schedule II Substance Cannabis Marihuana – contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Haileybury on September 29, 2015.

Shortly before 8:00 p.m. a 34-year-old Quebec man attended the RIDE Program. As a result, Kenneth SAUNDERS of Terrebonne is charged with Possession of a Schedule II Substance Cannabis Marihuana – contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Haileybury on September 29, 2015.

At approximately 10:00 p.m. police investigated a pick-up truck that approached the program. This resulted in locating a quantity of suspected marihuana and a rifle. The driver Darryl FARR, 43, of Adelaide-Metcalfe Township is charged with Possession of a Schedule II Substance Cannabis Marihuana – contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm – contrary to section 91(1) of the Criminal Code. The passenger Jonathon VANGRINSVEN, 24, of Middlesex Centre Township is charged for Possession of a Schedule II Substance Cannabis Marihuana – contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Both accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Haileybury on September 29, 2015.

RIDE stops are carried out throughout the year as part of the OPP’s Provincial Traffic Safety Program (PTSP). If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan to not drive. Arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi, stay overnight or take public transit. If you see that someone is impaired by alcohol or other drugs and intends on driving, strongly discourage them from driving and if they insist, call 9-1-1.
