First Degree Murder Charge For Mother Who Neglected To Get Assistance

(CAMDEN EAST, ON) – On May 9, 2015 officers of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Napanee detachment, responded to a call at a residence on Palace Road, Loyalist – Camden East (Napanee), ON.

Following an investigation, the Napanee OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of OPP Acting Detective Inspector Peter Donnelly, Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), charged Kirsten PEMBERTON, 23 of Napanee with:

· Neglect to Obtain Assistance in Child-Birth contrary to the Criminal Code.

She was arrested on May 11, 2015 with the assistance of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Serious Crimes Branch in Banff, Alberta and was returned to Napanee, ON to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Napanee. She was remanded into custody to appear today, May 19, 2015.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, she is further charged with:

· First Degree Murder

· Concealing the Body of a Child

· Fail to Obtain Assistance

· Indignity to a Body
