On the 12th of July 2014 Barrie Police Service assisted the Barrie Fire Department at a structure fire at a south end apartment complex. Barrie Fire responded to the address and found a fully engulfed structure fire. Barrie Fire Department was able to contain the fire to one unit, and extinguished the fire. The occupant of the unit was rescued by a civilian who scaled the balcony to rescue the lone female occupant who had received minor burns. The victim was treated and released from hospital.
Barrie Fire has determined that the cause of the fire is not suspicious at this time. The value of the damage is unknown at this time, but several other tenants of the building had to be evacuated with the assistance of the Red Cross due to extensive smoke damage. The Barrie Fire Department will continue their investigation, but are not involving the Office of the Fire Marshall at this time.
