On January 29, 2015 at 12:40 a.m., a Red Top Taxi driver called in a fire at an apartment building on Regent Street. The driver then began banging on doors and windows to alert residents so that they could evacuate. The Guelph Fire Department responded and arrived to find flames coming from the roof of the three floor apartment complex.
There were no injuries reported as all residents were evacuated and sheltered from the cold.
The cause of the fire, along with an estimate of damage, is still under investigation. Guelph Fire Prevention was contacted and remains on scene.
