On March 4, 2014, Waterloo Regional Police Detectives arrested an 82 year old female resident in relation to multiple fires at Sunnyside Senior’s Residence located at 233 Franklin Street North in Kitchener. The woman has been charged with 3 counts of Arson and 3 counts of Mischief – Endangering Life. She is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on April 25, 2014.

On March 3, 2014 at 8:51 p.m. Waterloo Regional Police and Kitchener Fire Department responded to 233 Franklin Street in the city of Kitchener after the sprinkler system had activated in relation to smoke coming from the enclosed garbage room at this location. Upon arrival, a recycling bin was found to contain smoldering papers. No damage occurred to the recycling bin or to the nearby building. Clean up costs and equipment repair are estimated at approximately $1000. There are no injuries reported and no evacuation took place. Police continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
