(HALIBURTON, ON) – Officers from the Haliburton Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) completed the Festive Ride Program on January 02, 2014. After nearly six weeks of the campaign which ran from November 23, 2013 – January 02, 2014, officers conducted 123 R.I.D.E. check programs, with approximately 5221 vehicles checked; 1 driver charged with Impaired Driving; 22 roadside tests conducted; 2 x 3-day suspensions; 7 Drug Possession charges and 45 Highway Traffic Act/Motorized Snow Vehicle Act charges. There were also 3 non – R.I.D.E. related Impaired Driving charges and one 3-day suspension during this time.
Officers worked extremely hard during this holiday season to ensure the safety of the motoring public was maintained. The OPP would like to remind motorists that although there is a concentrated effort during the holiday season, police R.I.D.E. checks are conducted all year long. We would also like to thank the public for their support in this program and ask them to immediately report any suspected impaired drivers to the police by calling 1 888-310-1122 or 911 or *OPP (677) on their cell phone.
