Fatal Pickup Truck Vs Train Collision

(ZORRA TOWNSHIP, ON.) – The Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was called to investigate a vehicle versus train fatal collision on the 13th Line in Zorra Township.

On Monday, October 17, 2016 at approximately 2:00 a.m. police were called to the collision on the 13th Line between Road 68 and Road 74, just west of Thamesford. A Canadian Pacific (CP) train was travelling westbound when it collided with a pick-up truck which was stopped on the tracks facing southbound. The impact from the collision pushed the pick-up truck approximately 100 yards where it came to rest in the south side ditch.

As a result of the collision, the lone male driver of the pick-up truck was pronounced deceased at the scene. The four CP Rail employees who were on the train at the time of the collision were not injured.

The OPP Technical Traffic Investigation (TTCI) Team attended the scene to assist with the investigation. The Zorra Township Fire Department as well as Oxford and Middlesex EMS attended and assisted at the scene.

The 13th Line was closed for several hours between Road 68 and Road 74 but will be re-opening shortly.

The identity of the deceased male is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
