(KENORA, ON) Members of Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently on the scene of a fatal motor vehicle collision that has claimed the life of a Manitoba man. Highway 17 was closed for several hours and has been opened to one lane at this time.
OPP were called to the collision on highway 17 near Percy Lake, east of Kenora on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at approximately 11:45 pm. Three tractor trailer units (TTU) were involved in the collision. Police were advised that an eastbound vehicle collided with a westbound vehicle and the third vehicle, also west bound, entered the north ditch. The male driver of the east bound vehicle was extracted from the vehicle by Kenora Fire and transported to Lake of the Woods District Hospital by Kenora ambulance with serious injuries. The passenger of the eastbound vehicle was also transported by ambulance where he succumbed to his injuries. The occupants of the other vehicles were uninjured.
The deceased has been identified as 57 year old Benjamin BUECKERT of Gladstone, Manitoba. A post mortem examination has been scheduled for November 28 at Lake of the Woods District Hospital.
The investigation is continuing with the assistance of Traffic Collision Investigators.
