(PICTON, ON)- Yesterday morning at 9:30 a.m. officers with the Prince Edward County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a fatal single motor vehicle collision on Hwy 49 just north of County Road 6 in Sophiasburgh Ward.
A 2006 Chevrolet Uplander failed to negotiate a curve in the highway. The vehicle entered the ditch and struck a tree.
Prince Edward Fire Services and regional ambulance also responded.
The lone female occupant of the vehicle, 70 year-old Leona BENDER of Tyendinaga First Nation, succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
An OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigator was called to the scene to assist in the investigation.
A post-mortem will take place today.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
